The ABC’S of Mrs. Ankney’s
Third Grade
A is for Assignment book. Students will be responsible for filling out their assignment book on a daily basis. The assignment book will contain homework information for that evening.
B is for Behavior. I expect students to come to school on their best behavior. Rules will be given and discussed on the first day. These are the following rules for Room A-6.
C is for Communication. It is very important to me to keep the lines of communication open. Please do not hesitate to write, call, or email me with any concerns or questions. You may email me at any time. ([email protected]) You may also call me at school (878-2160 ext. 6106) and leave a voice mail message.
D is for Daily schedule
E is for EARLY RELEASE DAYS. These will be on Wednesdays. Please make sure your child knows what he/she is doing on these days. The schedule on Early Release Wednesdays will be slightly different.
F is for FRIDAY FOLDERS. Each student will be given a folder that will go home on Friday of each week. This folder will have graded papers that your child has completed during the week. On the left hand side, there will be a parent signature sheet that is to be signed by a parent. The folder needs to be returned on Monday.
G is for Grading scale. The NHJ Corporation grading scale is:
100 A+ 99 – 93 A 92 – 90 A-
89 – 87 B+ 86 – 83 B 82 – 80 B-
79 – 77 C+ 76 – 73 C 72 – 70 C-
69 – 67 D+ 66 – 63 D 62 – 60 D-
59 – 0 F
H is for Homework. Homework will be assigned on most nights. Students will have assignments written down in their assignment book. Students are responsible for turning in homework the next day. Failing to do so will result in losing a citizenship point.
I is for iXL. The iXL online program is for both math and language arts. Students can log on at school or at home and complete lessons that will relate to the skills learning in the classroom. Each week, your child will be assigned different math and language lessons to complete.
J is for Journey. This year, your education journey, will be slightly different than normal. We will all work together to ensure we are being as safe as possible!
K is for Kindness. It is very important to me for my students to have an emotionally safe learning environment. Students are encouraged to try out new ideas and thoughts without the fear of being laughed at.
L is for Library. We will go to the library each week. Students will be allowed to check out 3 books on their level each week. At least one of these books must be a chapter book. We will go to library every Monday.
M is for Money. Please make sure your child brings in breakfast and lunch money when needed. Cost of breakfast is $1.50 Cost of lunch is $2.55.
N is for Newsletters. Newsletters containing important information for the next week or upcoming events will be sent home on Fridays. The newsletters will also be sent out via e-mail so please make sure to provide a current e-mail address.
O is for Organization. Students will use their 3-ring binders to stay organized. Inside the binder, you will find a “to do” side and a “done” side. Homework will be placed on the “to do” side and when it is completed, students can place it in the “done” side. This will allow the students to remember to turn in their homework! Assignment books will be kept in the binder at all times.
P is for Playground. Recess will look a bit different this year. You will be playing in three different areas. We will rotate every 10 minutes.
Q is for Quality Work. Give your best effort on all assignments.
R is for Reading Counts. Students will be responsible for earning at least 30 points each nine weeks.
S is for Specials. We rotate specials every day between PE, Music, and Art. Please make sure tennis shoes are worn or brought to school on PE days.
T is for Time management. Time management is important for third graders to learn. This year they will be asked to complete homework assignments from more than one subject. They will also have to use their time wisely to complete in-class assignments.
U is for Umbrella. Although an umbrella is not always needed, we ask that students come to school dressed according to the weather. In the winter, they have to wear a coat to go outside. We try to go out as much as possible!
V is for Video Chat. We will have some Google Meets throughout the year. Please be respectful and a good listener while in a Google Meet.
W is for Writing. Remember to write a note when your child needs to leave early, ride a different bus, and when your child is absent. The note needs to explain while your child was absent. If you would like to pick up work for your child, please contact the office in the morning and leave a message.
X is for eXcellent progress. Each student is capable of making progress. My job will be to challenge students. Their job will be to push themselves to do their best work.
Y is for YOU! You are an important part of this classroom. I am excited to get to know each one of you!
Z is for Zzzzs. It is important for your child to get enough sleep at night. It is hard to keep a child’s attention when he or she is too tired to learn.
